On 13 April 2016, NISCSS President Wu Shicun was interviewed in Beijing by Megha Rajagopalan from Reuters News and Aipeng Soo from Bloomberg News.

President Wu first introduced China’s basic position on the arbitration case unilaterally initiated by the Philippines against China. As he remarked, the arbitration case has been highly politicized, and the arbitration tribunal has become an agent of the Philippine interests in the South China Sea. The arbitration case will only end up aggravating and worsening the relevant disputes between China and the Philippines, instead of resolving them. China, as the biggest littoral state in the South China Sea, has the obligation to maintain regional peace and stability and will not implement unjust awards.

President Wu also shared his ideas on such issues as land reclamation in the Nansha Islands ( Spratlys) and the relations between China and ASEAN countries.

Persons from the Information Department and the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present.
