Ching-Fong Chang, president of Taiwan Ocean University, addressed the opening ceremony and remarked that the South China Sea-themed summer camp laid a platform for exchanges between young students across the Strait, expanded opportunities for Chinese mainland and Taiwan to jointly handle the intensifying South China Sea issues and played a positive role in promoting academic cooperation and fostering marine talents across the  Strait.

The eight-day summer camp has an informative curriculum and a tight schedule. The organizers have invited prominent professors and officials in the fields of international law, international relations, marine biology and marine archaeology who will hold seminars for the students. As part of the field studies, the students will visit various sites such as maritime museum, center for marine science, Keelung harbor and aquaculture center.

The South China Sea-themed Summer Camp is designed to help college students across the Strait to get better understandings of South China Sea issues, inspire talents in maritime research, and deepen exchanges among the students across the Strait. Since it was launched in 2012 in Haikou, the summer camp has been held alternately in Taiwan and Chinese mainland, and has been making positive contributions to fostering talents in maritime studies.
