On 12 November 2015, NISCSS President Wu Shicun held a discussion with Gordon Venner (assistant deputy minister of Canadian Department of National Defence) and Mark Gwozdecky (assistant deputy minister of Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development) and others on China-Canada relations, Asia-Pacific security situation, the South China Sea disputes and Arctic sea lanes.

Gordon Houlden (director of China Institute at the University of Alberta) and Zhu Feng (executive director of the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies at Nanjing University) also attended the discussion.
