On October 10-12, 2016, the 7th Xiangshan Forum is held in Beijing. NISCSS President Wu Shicun attends the forum and delivers a speech for the panel on maritime security cooperation.

As President Wu remarks, after the release of the final award by the arbitral tribunal, China has taken a series of timely and effective diplomatic and public opinion responses, which have helped to bring a period of relative calm to the South China Sea. But the current calm is only temporary. The situation in the South China Sea will soon enter an entirely new stage of development. The overall forecast is that it will become more turbulent, more complex, and more difficult to manage. Besides, Wu also offered several suggestions on how to maintain regional peace and stability in the South China Sea.

This forum is co-organized by China Association for Military Science and China Institute for International Strategic Studies. This year's forum is themed as building a new model of international relations through enhancing security dialogue and cooperation, and brings together more than 400 academic, government and military representatives from 64 countries and international organizations. The participants hold discussions on four major topics: the role of military in global governance, responding to new security challenges in the Asia-Pacific through cooperation, maritime security cooperation, and international terrorism threats and countermeasures. General Chang Wanquan, Chinese state councilor and defense minister, delivers a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

On the sidelines of the forum, Wu answers questions on Sino-Philippine relations, COC consultation, and Japanese interference with the South China Sea  disputes while interviewed by the media, including People's Daily Online, China Military, China Radio International and Asahi Shimbun.
