On 15 May 2017, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the 5th Global Think Tank Summit in Beijing at the invitation of China Center for International Economic Exchanges.

Wu attended the opening ceremony and made a speech on the current and future situation in the South China Sea at the (closed-door) parallel roundtable themed “Regional and Global Security: Situation and Prospect,” which was chaired by Fu Ying, chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress.

Themed “Gathering Wisdom for Promoting Global Growth”, this summit brought together scholars, experts and  persons in charge of think tanks from 38 countries.
