NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended 2017 Colloquium on International Law in HK

On 7-8 July 2017, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the 2017 Colloquium on International Law: Common Future in Asia, which was co-organized by Chinese Society of International Law (CSIL) and Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL) at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

 

The colloquium brought together more than 100 experts, scholars and officials from multiple countries, regions and international organizations, including the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the US, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and the International Law Commission of the United Nations.

 

Speeches were made by Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR and Tung Chee-hwa, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Opening remarks were made by CSIL President Li Shishi and AAIL Chairman Teresa Cheng SC. A video speech was given by Liu Zhenmin, Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. A luncheon speech was made by Xie Zhenhua, Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of China and Vice Chairman of the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC.

 

This two-day colloquium focused on the following topics: “One Country Two Systems: Interaction with International Law”, “Investment Collaboration-Opportunities & Challenges in Asia” and “Interpretation of Treaties and UNCLOS: The Regime of Islands, Rocks and Offshore Archipelagos”, with the last being chaired by Wu.

 

On the sidelines, Wu was also interviewed by Hong Kong-based journalists from Shenzhen TV and other media.
