On September 15, 2017, Christopher M. Smith, Chief of Economic/Political Section of the US Consulate General in Guangzhou, visited the NISCSS and met with President Wu Shicun. The two sides exchanged views on issues that may affect the South China Sea situation, Trump administration's South China Sea policy, and the issue of North Korea.
