NISCSS Scholar attended the 28th Workshop on Managing Potential Conflicts in the South China Sea

From September the 8th to 10th, the 28th Workshop on Managing Potential Conflicts in the South China Sea and the 14th Working Group Meeting on the Study of Tides and Sea Level Change and Their Impacts on Coastal Environment in the South China Sea affected by Potential Climate Change, as part of the agenda of the workshop, were held in Manado, Indonesia.

 

More than 60 participants from Chinese mainland and Taiwan as well as ASEAN countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos and Brunei attended the events. Participants reviewed the progress of various projects under the framework of the workshop, proposed new projects for further cooperation, and held in-depth discussion on future development of the workshop. NISCSS Assistant Research Fellow Zhang Xinyue was also attended the workshop, and presented on the topic “Joint Development and its Application in the South China Sea: Challenges and Prospects”.

 

Initiated in 1990, the Workshop on Managing Potential Conflicts in the South China Sea serves as an unofficial, informal and institutionalized mechanism. It has played a unique role in facilitating dialogues and cooperation, enhancing mutual trust, and maintaining the peace and stability of the South China Sea.
