On 30 November 2018, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the 4th International Symposium on China-Malaysia Relations in Kuala Lumpur. He spoke at a panel on “Malaysian and Chinese perspectives on Global Strategic Issues”and engaged in in-depth discussions with other guests about other key topics of China-Malaysia relations.

Initiated by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia in 2014, the International Symposium on China-Malaysia Relations is an institutionalized track-II dialogue and an important platform for public diplomacy between China and Malaysia. The Chinese delegation present at the symposium was led by Hu Zhengyue, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, and his counterpart leading the Malaysian delegation was Dato' Steven CM Wong, Deputy Chief Executive of the ISIS Malaysia. More than 40 participants, including senior diplomats, acclaimed scholars and experts from think tanks and research institutions of both countries and media representatives, were present at the symposium.

While in Malaysia, Dr. Wu also met with Bai Tian, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Deputy Secretary-General for Bilateral Affairs of Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from Malaysia-China Friendship Association.
