Wu Shicun visited the International Seabed Authority

On 14 November 2019, NISCSS President Dr. Wu Shicun visited the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica and met with the ISA Secretary-General Michael Lodge. The two sides discussed and exchanged views on issues such as international seabed resources development and utilization, negotiations on marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ), global ocean governance, and cooperation.

Dr. Wu’s visit is at the invitation of ISA to attend the international conference on the “Legal, Scientific and Economic Aspects of Deep Seabed Mining.” The International Seabed Authority is an autonomous international organization established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the 1994 Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, aiming at organize and control activities in the Area (the seabed and ocean floor and subsoil thereof beyond the limits of national jurisdiction), particularly with a view to administering the resources of the Area. The Authority has its headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica.
