On 6 December 2019, Dr He Baogang, Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, and Alfred Deakin Professor and Personal Chair in International Relations at the Deakin University, visited NISCSS, and met with President Wu Shicun. Dr Wu and He had an in-depth discussion on issues related to the on-going negotiation of the "South China Sea Code of Conduct." During his visit, Dr He also held a seminar on “Regionalism as an Instrument for Global Power Contestation: The Case of China,” and exchanged his views with NISCSS scholars on various topics such as the possible development of security mechanisms in East Asian, the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative and its implications for both China-US and China-Australia relations, among others.
