On 15 April 2015, Susan A. Thornton, deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific

 Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, met with a delegation led by NISCSS President Wu Shicun, who

 was in Washington, D.C. to attend an international conference entitled “China-U.S. Cooperation in Global 

Security Affairs”. The two sides held an in-depth exchange about the hot issues related to the current 

China-U.S. relations and the South China Sea situation. Zhu Feng, executive director of the Center for 

Collaborative Studies of South China Sea at Nanjing University, also attended the meeting.
