China's consumer, producer price inflation eases in August

China's consumer and producer prices grew at slower paces in August despite unprecedented heat waves and ongoing COVID-19 flare-ups.


The consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.5 percent year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Friday, adding that growth was down a 0.2 percentage point from the previous month.


The producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, increased 2.3 percent in August from a year earlier, down 1.9 percentage points from July, according to the NBS.
