Japan's Military Requests Budget Increase for Range of Hardware Purchases

"Japan's Ministry of Defence has asked the government for a fourth consecutive increase to its annual budget in order to fortify the country's far-flung island chain in the East China Sea.
The document, submitted to the government Monday, requests a 2.2% increase in military spending, taking the total defence budget to US $42-billion for the fiscal year starting April, 2016."
