"China's foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned a report from the US State Department about Beijing's claims in the South China Sea, and has called on Washington to view and handle issues concerning these claims in an objective manner.

The State Department report, issued on Friday, said that China's claims were both unclear and inconsistent. China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei said such a report went against Washington's promises not to take sides in the dispute."
