Hacked US news agency Twitter account triggers false alarm over US-China combat

"Hackers hijacked the Twitter account of a major international news agency on Friday to spread false reports of combat between US and Chinese ships in the South China Sea.


The cyberattack occurred as Barack Obama and David Cameron held a press conference in the White House addressing cyber security.


The tweets, sent from United Press International's official account, claimed a Chinese ship had fired on the USS George Washington "to protect its interest through military means". Similar messages were posted on NY Post's Twitter account."
