Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki canceled plans to travel to a summit in Israel over remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the role of Poles in the Holocaust.

Morawiecki informed his Israeli counterpart by telephone of his decision to skip the summit of the Visegrad Group of Central European countries, slated to be held for the first time in Jerusalem on Monday and Tuesday, I24News reported.

Poland's foreign minister is expected to attend instead, Haaretz reported.

The last-minute decision follows a diplomatic spat over comments made by Netanyahu in Warsaw last week. Polish leaders expressed outrage after he was reported as saying that “the Poles cooperated with the Germans” during the Holocaust.
