U.S. President Trump's defense arguments begin

Over two hours on Saturday, President Donald Trump’s legal team laid out its defense in his trial in the U.S. Senate, where he stands accused of seeking foreign interference in U.S. elections.


"When you hear the facts and that’s what we plan to present today, is that the president did nothing wrong," said Pat Cipollone, White House Counsel.


Trump’s lawyers responded to three days of testimony by Democrats who presented evidence to support two articles of impeachment: one that accuses President Trump of abuse of power by encouraging Ukraine to interfere in U.S. elections by pushing for an investigation into political rival Joe Biden. The second accuses him of obstruction of Congress by ordering aides not to testify and hand over documents.
