In a series of retweets, President Donald Trump seemingly confirmed reports on Saturday that the U.S. had killed Qassim al-Rimi, the leader of an al Qaeda affiliate in Yemen.

The New York Times reported on Friday that officials believed Rimi, a 41-year-old who headed al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), had likely been killed in a January drone strike in Wadi Abedah, an al Qaeda hotbed in central Yemen. But the Trump administration was awaiting final confirmation of his killing before making an official announcement.

On Saturday morning, Trump retweeted posts from two accounts that discussed the news of Rimi's death, but did not address the airstrike in a post of his own.
