China concerned over new US-Japan defense guidelines

"China on Thursday voiced concerns over new U.S - Japan defense guidelines. The United States and Japan issued the new agreement following a meeting between their foreign and defense ministers in New York.


The new guidelines eliminate current geographic limits on activities by Japanese forces. Washington has reiterated its position that the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea fall under Japanese administration, and are within the scope of the US-Japan security treaty. The two defense ministers also discussed the South China sea issue, agreeing to work with Southeast Asian countries. China's Defence Ministry has responded to the new defense agreement."
