The 5th Program of China-ASEAN Academy on Ocean Law and Governance Concluded

On 20 November 2019, the closing ceremony of the 5th Program of China-ASEAN Academy on Ocean Law and Governance was held in Haikou.

 

Participants divided into five teams presented their project reports on topics such as climate change, plastic waste disposal, fisheries management and coral reef protection in the South China Sea. Ms. Li Jianwei, Research Fellow of Research Center for Maritime Economy at the NISCSS, and Professor Daniel Lane, Chair of the Board of Directors of International Ocean Institute-Canada and Professor Emeritus of the University of Ottawa, delivered closing remarks and spoke highly of the project presentation. All the participants were awarded with the certificates from the Academy for successfully completing the program.

The China-ASEAN Academy on Ocean Law and Governance has successfully held five regular programs and a special program on law enforcement at sea in the past five years. It aims to foster capacity building of a community for regional ocean governance, and contribute to the peace, stability and the sustainable development of the South China Sea.
