Adjunct Research Professor

Rommel C. Banlaoi

Rommel C. Banlaoi is manager of the South China Sea Program (SCSP) at the Center for Intelligence and National Security Studies (CINSS) of the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence andTerrorism Research (PIPVTR). He is a recipient of the Albani Philippine Peace Prize Award in 2011 for peaceand national security education. He currently serves as vice president of the Philippine Association of ChineseStudies (PACS) and a senior fellow of the Yuchengco Center at De La Salle University (DLSU) in Manila, thePhilippines. He currently teaches at the Department of International Studies at Miriam College, the Philippines where he handles subjects on political analysis, Philippine government and constitution, global issues, andinternational peace and security.

Rommel is the author of the terrorism trilogy, namelyPhilippine Security in the Age of Terror (New York: CRCPress/Routledge/Taylor and Francis, Inc. 2010), Counter-Terrorism Measures in Southeast Asia: How EffectiveAre They? (Manila: Yuchengco Center, 2009), and War on Terrorism in Southeast Asia (Manila: Rex Book Store International, 2004). He is also the author of The ASEAN Regional Forum, the South China Sea Disputes, andthe Functionalist Option published in 2001 by the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) wherehe served as professor from 1998-2008. His latest publication is Philippines-China Security Relations: CurrentIssues and Emerging Concerns published in October 2012 by the Yuchengco Center. This is a sequel of his book,Security Aspects of Philippines-China Relations: Bilateral Issues and Concerns in the Age of Global Terrorismpublished in 2004 by Rex Book Store International.
