From 6 to 9 September 2023, a NISCSS delegation under the project of “Oral Narration of South China Sea” led by Dr. Yan Yan, Director of Research Center for Oceans Law and Policy, visited Phnom Penh and met with Dr. Chheng Kimlong, Executive Vice-President of the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) in Cambodia, Advisor to the Speaker and the Cambodian National Assembly and Dr. NGO Sitthykun, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS) and other experts. Both sides held talks on the past and future of China-Cambodia relations in the context of the 10th anniversary of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia, the current South China Sea situation, regional economic cooperation and other issues.

After the talk, Dr. Yan Yan also conducted an interview as part of the “Oral Narration of South China Sea” project with Dr. Chheng Kimlong on issues such as the importance of the the “Belt and Road” initiative to the development of Cambodia’s economy and people’s livelihood, the new Cambodian government’s China policy, and the latest progress of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation project.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia.
