From 9 to 12 September 2023, a NISCSS delegation under the project of “Oral Narration of South China Sea” led by Dr. Yan Yan, Director of Research Center for Oceans Law and Policy, visited relevant Malaysian think tanks, enterprises, universities and chambers of commerce, conducted in-depth interviews as part of the “Oral Narration of South China Sea” project and exchanged views on various issues such as the historical contribution and significance of the “DOC”, China-ASEAN maritime cooperation, the historical background and practical significance of China's “Global Security Initiative”, as well as the 10th anniversary of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the future prospects of China-Malaysia relations with Syed Hamid Albar, former Malaysian Justice Minister, Defence Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister and Home Affairs Minister, One Tee Keat, former Malaysian Transport Minister, Chairman of the Centre for New Inclusive Asia, B.A. Hamzah, Senior Researcher at the Strategic Research Department of the National Defense University, Rao Zhaobin, Director of the Institute of China Studies of University of Malaya, and other former political figures, experts and entrepreneurs.

During the visit in Kuala Lumpur, the delegation also met with relevant officials from the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia.
