On 5 September 2015, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the Sino-US Academic Retreat (2015) in Beijing and delivered a speech on the session of "Outstanding Problems in Present Sino-US Relations and Possible Solutions". In his speech, President Wu focused on the South China Sea factor in present Sino-US relations and the ways to manage crises, and then he answered questions raised by the participants.

      The Sino-US Academic Retreat (2015) was co-organized by the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations and the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at the Renmin University of China. There were over 40 participants from China and the US, including experts and government officials.
