Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun urged the Japanese authorities to seriously reflect on and correct their wrongdoings and take real actions to return to the purpose and mission of the four key political documents shared by China and Japan.

Guo made the remarks at a daily news conference in Beijing on Tuesday, the 54th anniversary of the issuance of the China-Japan Joint Statement in 1972, which marked the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The four political documents, including the joint statement, laid the political and legal foundation for China-Japan relations, and established the rules for properly settling major issues of principle, including history and Taiwan, Guo said.
