On 30 September 2016, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the one-day marine policy forum (2016) in Keelung, Taiwan.

In his keynote speech, Wu shared his views on the current situation in the South China Sea, Chinese mainland’s South China Sea policy, as well as the challenges to both sides of the Taiwan Strait and joint responses.

The forum was hosted by Taiwan Ocean University, and brought together over sixty representatives from Taiwan Ocean University, Taiwan Chengchi University, Taiwan Normal University, the Academia Sinica and relevant law enforcement agencies. There were topics around cross-strait cooperation in maintaining sovereignty in the South China Sea, recent sovereign disputes in the South China Sea, and fishing rights in the Okinotorishima waters in West Pacific.

During his stay in Taiwan , Wu was interviewed by local media, including CNS, FTV and "China Review News Agency".
