On 26 October 2016, NISCSS President Wu Shicun held a discussion with the Hong Kong Bar Association on the origin of the South China Sea disputes, the current situation in the South China Sea, China-US relations, and the South China Sea arbitration.

Deputy Director-General Ma Xinmin of the Department of Treaty and Law of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Counselor Mao Ning of the Department of Asian Affairs of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of the Hong Kong Bar Association attended the discussion.
