On 9 November 2016, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended an international conference on Sino-US relations and South China Sea conflicts at the University of Macau and delivered a keynote speech on the current situation and Sino-US sea power contest.

This conference was organized by the University of Macau and brought together over 50 experts, scholars and students from La Trobe University of Australia, the University of Canberra, the University of Malaya, De La Salle University and Sun Yat-sen University.

Ms. Yan Yan, deputy director of NISCSS Research Center for Oceans Law and Policy, made a speech entitled "Sino-US Unexpected Encounters at South China Sea and Code for Safe Behavior" during the panel on militarization in the South China Sea and Sino-US crisis management.
