On March 29-30, 2017, Mr. Vivian Forbes, adjunct research professor of the NISCSS and professor from the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Western Australia, delivered two lectures entitled "China and Malaysia: Charm, Diplomacy, Economy and Friendship" and "Archival Research to Enhance Territorial and Sovereignty Claims". He also exchanged ideas with part of NISCSS research staff. Professor Forbes began a one-week-long academic visit to the NISCSS from 27 March 2017.

NISCSS President Wu Shicun participated in the activity.
