On 18 April 2017, NISCSS President Wu Shicun visited Japanese Ocean Policy Research Foundation (OPRF) in Tokyo and met with OPRF Executive Director Hiroshi Terashima. The two sides exchanged views on marine ecological environmental protection, marine management, think tank development and other issues of common concern.

Also present at the discussion were Professor Zhu Feng with Nanjing University, Professor Yu Tiejun with Peking University, Professor Zhang Renping with Dalian Maritime University and Professor Zhang Xinjun with Tsinghua University.

On the afternoon of the same day, President Wu was interviewed by Makoto Matsuoka, a journalist with Kyodo News, about the Japanese version of Wu’s new book on South China Sea studies, the current situation in the South China Sea, and the US and Japan’s policies on the South China Sea.
