On 19 April 2017, the Japanese version of “Solving Disputes for Regional Cooperation and Development in the South China Sea” was released in Tokyo. It was written by NISCSS President Wu Shicun. The release ceremony brought together over 90 representatives of Japanese political, academic and media circles. Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama sent a letter congratulating its release.
Wu introduced the publication background, main purpose and the South China Sea situation. As he remarked, as the South China Sea issues became heated up, Japanese strategic, academic and media circles began to pay close attention to and discuss the issues, and it’s hoped that this book helped Japanese readers understand the history of the issues and bridge the misunderstanding and differences between the policy and academic communities of China and Japan.
This is the first book to be written by a Chinese scholar and published in Japan with a comprehensive, systematic and objective explanation of South China Sea issues. This eight-chapter book discusses the South China Sea issues with regards to history, law, international politics, economics, diplomacy and military affairs. It also discusses the South China Sea arbitration, the US policy on the South China Sea and other hot-spot issues.
