Wu Shicun Attended 8th Beijing Xiangshan Forum

On 24 and 25th October 2018, the 8th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, co-hosted by the China Association for Military Science (CAMS) and China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS), was held at Beijing International Convention Center. Upon invitation from the organizers, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the opening ceremony and participated in a close-door session on “the South China Sea Status Quo and Prospect for China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation.”
With a program themed “Building a New Type of Security Partnership of Equality, Mutual Trust and Win-Win Cooperation,” the forum was designed to contribute to the construction of “a community with a shared future for mankind”. Topics of discussion include “New Ideas for and New Approaches to International Security Governance,” “Terrorism Threats and Countermeasures,” “Reality and Vision of Maritime Security Cooperation,” and “Challenges to and Cooperation of U.N. Peacekeeping.” The forum brought together more than 500 participants, including serving defense and military leaders from 67 different countries, representatives from seven international organizations, retired government officials and military commanders and renowned scholars. Chinese National Defense Minister Wei Fenghe was present at the opening ceremony of the forum and read Chinese President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message to the audience.
During the forum, President Wu Shicun was interviewed by a range of media including the Xinhua News Agency, China National Defense News, Southeast Television, Sansha Television, Voice of Strait, China Review, and China Times.
