On 21 November 2018, the closing ceremony of the 4th Program of China-ASEAN Academy on Ocean Law and Governance was held in Haikou. Participants divided into five groups presented their group reports respectively, and got their certificates awarded from the Academy for successfully completing the program. Ms. Li Jianwei, Director of Research Center for Maritime Economy at the NISCSS and Michael Butler, Director of IOI-Canada delivered remarks on the closing ceremony on behalf of the organizers.

Participants from ASEAN countries spoke highly of the course design and program organization. They believe the program has not only helped to enhance their understanding of the transdisciplinary nature and approach of ocean governance, but also helped to build up trust, connection and friendship among all participants, which, in the long term, would contribute to the sustainable development of the South China Sea region as well as the maintenance of peace and stability.
