Wu Shicun attended the Round Table Dialogue on Philippines-China Relations in Manila

On 9 October 2019, NISCSS President Wu Shicun attended the Round Table Dialogue on Philippines-China Relations held in Manila, co-organized by Philippine Council for Foreign Relations (PCFR) and Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA). Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. The close-door Dialogue brought together about 40 participants, to give speeches and have an in-depth discussion on various issues such as the current situation of the South China Sea, China-Philippine relations and maritime cooperation, including Secretary Rafael M. Alunan III, Chairman of Board of Trustees of PCFR, Ms. Ana Teh, Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines, and Ambassador Yang Yanyi, Member of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Former Chinese Ambassador to Brunei and the European Union.
President Wu Shicun delivered a speech on bilateral cooperation between China and the Philippines. In his remarks, Dr. Wu pointed out that China and the Philippines should continue to promote maritime cooperation in the areas of maritime search and rescue, navigation safety and combating maritime crimes, and jointly promote fishery management, development and maintain the overall peace and stability in the South China Sea region under the “Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea”. In terms of humanities exchanges, both sides can strengthen cooperation in areas, such as think tank exchanges, media, education, and tourism to allow more cooperative projects to benefit the public.
