Participants of Training Program for LMC Future Diplomats visited NISCSS

On 5 November 2019, more than 50 participants of the Training Program for the Future Diplomats of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) visited the NISCSS, and had a roundtable discussion with NISCSS scholars. The two sides exchanged views on various topics such as the origin and development of the South China Sea disputes, the current situation in the South China Sea, the consultation and negotiation of a code of conduct in the South China Sea, the applicability of disputes settlement mechanism of the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea, the impact of the US "India-Pacific strategy" on the South China Sea issue, possible development of a regional security mechanism, and functional cooperation on ocean affairs among coastal states of the South China Sea.

The Training Program for the Future Diplomats of LMC is launched by the China Foreign Affairs University in 2019. It aims to implement the initiatives of LMC leaders’ meeting and provide a lasting mechanism for exchanges and communication among junior diplomats and college students who are committed to be diplomats as their career from the six LMC countries.
