“U.S.-China track II dialogue on maritime issues and international law” held in Washington, D.C.

On April 17-18, 2015, the conference entitled “U.S.-China track II dialogue on maritime issues and international law” was held in Washington, D.C., with the organizers being the National Institute for South China Sea Studies (NISCSS) and the National Committee on United States-China Relations (NCUSCR). There were about 20 scholars and experts from think tanks, universities, colleges and government agencies, including the NISCSS, National Defence University PLA China, Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Taiwan's Academia Sinica, New York University, Cornell University, U.S. Naval War College, the U.S. Center for Naval Analyses and the Office of the U.S. Secretary of Defense. In a candid and friendly atmosphere, the delegates conducted a full and profound discussion about the current situation in the East China Sea and the South China Sea, the role of international jurisdiction and arbitration proceedings in maritime disputes, and how to improve dispute management and settlement mechanisms. There were some consensuses among the delegates.
