Chinese homecoming trips surge by 23% for Spring Festival

The Spring Festival, the most important Chinese festival centered on family reunions, has become even bigger in 2024.
The number of people returning home in China this year increased by 23 percent compared to the same period last year, according to telecommunications operator China Mobile's big data analysis.
The number of railway passengers in China dropped by about 40 percent on February 9, the eve of the first day of this year's Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, compared to the previous day, as many people had already returned home or embarked on their journeys, data from an official ticketing platform showed.
