US President Donald Trump resumed the naval blockade of Iranian ports on Tuesday and threatened new strikes on the country's power plants and bridges if Tehran refuses to return to talks.

The US also launched a new wave of strikes aimed at "continuing to degrade Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," the US military said.

The moves mark a further escalation in the renewed confrontation between the US and Iran, which resumed hostilities last week and put a fragile June truce under mounting strain. Tehran says it has again shut the Strait of Hormuz, a key chokepoint for global energy trade.
