"Sealing three free-trade agreements in a single year is quite a feat. Landing one as remarkably liberal as the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) is extraordinary. This deal, in scope and potential, far exceeds what the Abbott government anticipated a year ago, when Prime Minister Tony Abbott suggested he would take "whatever we can get". And it goes well beyond what the Australian business community expected. If properly implemented, nurtured and eventually expanded, ChAFTA will mark a new phase in a deeply prosperous relationship between the two countries.
It will open new markets for Australian producers, especially in the agricultural and horticultural sectors. And by providing direct investment opportunities in Australia for private Chinese investors, it should aid expansion of local producers' capabilities, potentially increasing their profitability."
