"The 'Invincible Spirit 2016' joint drills conducted by the naval forces
of the US and South Korea started on Monday and are to be held until
Saturday. The Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier, the USS Ronald
Reagan, took part in the drills.
The drills follows Pyongyang's
second nuclear test this year. The two sides have come to a
confrontational stage. These events not only consolidate the split and
cold-war pattern in the Korean Peninsula, but also impose enormous
geostrategic pressure on China.
The exercises were held on
Monday, the 71st anniversary of the founding of North Korea's Workers'
Party. Washington and Seoul wanted to prepare for a possible nuclear
test by North Korea on that day. They also sent a warning signal via
their display of force."
