"US President-elect Donald Trump's
appointment of Peter Navarro of the University of California, Irvine,
as the director of the National Trade Council, is an overt realignment
of American economic policy and engagement with China. Navarro became a
Trump campaign adviser after sending Trump his book Death by China in
2011, which the men began a correspondence over.
Navarro and billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who will serve as a special adviser on regulatory issues, and billionaire Wilbur Ross, an advocate of steep tariffs on China, reflect a hardline administration focused on China, not Russia. But unlike outgoing President Barack Obama, who subtly tried to isolate and exclude China, Trump seems to desire a direct and confrontational economic trade policy."
