President Trump is to pitch his nationalist agenda to the global elite of the World Economic Forum in Davos this month, the White House confirmed in a surprise announcement yesterday.

Mr Trump will become the first sitting US president since Bill Clinton to attend the annual meeting in the Swiss Alps, which attracts some of the wealthiest and most powerful members of the establishment that he attacked relentlessly on the campaign trail. The event is known for its internationalist outlook.

About 2,500 of the world’s leading chief executives, bankers, advisers lobbyists, journalists, politicians along with a sprinkling of celebrities attend the Davos meeting every year. It is described by its proponents as the world’s most important networking event.
