White House: Trump has been tough on Russia because he said so

A reporter touched a nerve during Friday's White House media briefing when he asked press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders why President Trump has not “spoken out personally” about sanctions the United States imposed on Russia earlier in the day.
“The president has,” Sanders insisted, cutting off the Los Angeles Times's Noah Bierman. “It's ridiculous that you guys say that. Just earlier this week, the president stood on a stage in an open press room and talked about how he had been tough on Russia.”
Sanders was referring to remarks Trump made on Wednesday during a joint news conference with leaders of Baltic nations. A journalist from Estonia asked, “How are you going to deal with President Vladimir Putin? Is he your enemy or someone you can have dialogue with?”
