Trump revives hopes for peace summit with North Korea

The prospect of an unprecedented meeting between the leaders of North Korea and the US was alive again last night, three days after President Trump appeared to have blocked any chance of next month’s summit taking place.


In a burst of diplomatic activity over the weekend the leaders of the two Koreas met for a second time in a month, cementing their personal bond and voicing their determination to press ahead with the “complete denuclearisation” of the Korean peninsula.


In Washington Mr Trump said that the White House was still “looking at June 12 in Singapore” — the date and venue originally proposed for his meeting with Kim Jong-un. “I truly believe North Korea has brilliant potential and will be a great economic and financial nation one day,” Mr Trump tweeted last night. “Kim Jong Un agrees with me on this. It will happen!”
