Donald Trump said last night that he will meet the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this month, reinstating plans for a historic summit he scrapped a week ago.

“We’ll be meeting on June 12 in Singapore,” the president told reporters outside the White House after a 90-minute meeting in the Oval Office with Kim Yong-chol, North Korea’s chief nuclear negotiator and former top spy.

It was the first visit to the White House by a North Korean official for 18 years. Afterwards Mr Trump said: “I really think they want to do something . . . and if it’s possible, so do we.”
