White House cancels Putin’s invitation for an autumn summit

President Trump’s invitation to Vladimir Putin to visit Washington in the autumn was withdrawn last night amid a lack of enthusiasm from the Kremlin.
John Bolton, US national security adviser, cited a special counsel investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow as the reason for postponing the meeting.
Mr Bolton said: “The President believes that the next bilateral meeting with President Putin should take place after the Russia witch hunt is over, so we’ve agreed that it will be after the first of the year.” There is no guarantee, however, that the inquiry being led by Robert Mueller will end this year.
