On February 14, 2015, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Dubai.
Mohammed expressed that the UAE attaches great importance to the UAE-China relations and is willing to become a portal for China to developing relations with the Gulf and Arab countries. The UAE welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and develop and Chinese tourists to travel and go sightseeing in the UAE. The ancient Silk Road has left many much-told stories about the friendly cooperation between the Arab countries and China. In the new historical period the UAE is willing to work with China to advance the construction of "One Belt One Road" so as to endow new connotation to the cooperation along the Silk Road. The construction of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is conducive to development of countries in the region and conforms to interests of all parties. The UAE side is ready to actively draw on the successful experience on the Shanghai World Expo of China, in a move to hold the 2020 World Expo successfully.
Wang Yi expressed that the UAE, with adherence to the open, inclusive and enterprising spirit, has created wonders in the desert through unremitting efforts, and has become an important bridge connecting China and the Arab world. The UAE has unique position and influence in the Middle East and the Gulf region. The Chinese side is willing to constantly propel the China-UAE strategic partnership. The Chinese side appreciates the active response from the UAE to the construction of "One Belt One Road", and stands ready to combine its strategy of opening-up to the west with the "Look East" policy of the UAE and give play to respective advantages so as to inject new impetuses to and open up new space for the bilateral cooperation. Both sides can achieve mutual benefits and win-win results by launching cooperation in industries, production capacity and other new fields, based on the continuous maintenance of traditional cooperation. The Chinese side is ready to strengthen coordination and collaboration with the UAE in international and regional affairs, and jointly maintain the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
