Abe shows no willingness to compromise with S. Korea

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea--Japanese and South Korean leaders showed no signs of mending soured bilateral relations here after South Korea’s top court ordered Japanese companies to pay compensation to wartime Korean laborers.
On Nov. 17, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Moon Jae-in exchanged nothing more than a simple “greeting” at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, according to a briefing by Japanese officials.
The two leaders encountered each other in a waiting room for delegates attending a forum conference. The prime minister and the president did not shake hands, the officials added.
