President Trump is preparing to seize funding for the wall he wants on the Mexico border as talks in Congress stalled five days before a deadline to avoid another government shutdown.
A shortfall in the $5.7 billion demanded by Mr Trump for the wall could be found from other budget sources, Mick Mulvaney, the president’s acting chief of staff, said yesterday, easing fears of a repeat closure.
Democrats on a bipartisan committee created to resolve the conflict have offered less than half the money and want to reform the treatment of immigrants, leading to a collapse in talks.
